Heavy rains hit life in Lakhimpur

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, June 14 � Incessant rains flooded the district headquarters town of North Lakhimpur inundating a large area of the municipality severely affecting normal life. Rains lashed heavily this morning for more than two hours. Due to the heavy downpour most of the residents here could not move out and were forced to stay indoors.

The heavy downpour waterlogged a lot of places under the North Lakhimpur Municipality area inundating many residential and public localities. The worst affected areas were the Leelavati Bordoli Road in the Ward No. 8 where the busy road was closed for several hours as flood water flowed over it. The flood in that area forced the authorities to close the North Lakhimpur Girls HS School as the entire road to the school was flooded. Similarly the rain caused flood in Ward No. 6 area where many roads and residences were submerged. The road in front of Town Namghar leading to Deputy Commissioner�s Residence were under water for several hours in the morning. Many shops and business establishments were also flooded in the main NT Road of North Lakhimpur causing damages. The heavy shower also inundated many residential areas in KB Road and Khelmati region of North Lakhimpur town.
