SILCHAR, April 24 - Vast areas of Udharbondh, Gosainpur and Kumbhirgram under Udharbondh constituency have been inundated due to heavy rainfall over the past few weeks.
At least 200 families living in the villages under the constituency have been hit by the overflowing water from Madura river. People are seen using bamboo boats to reach the main road. The VIP Road connecting Silchar with the airport is submerged.
Expressing their plight, the villagers said that they have been demanding an embankment over river Madura for a very long time. But the demands have not been responded which led to the current situation.
Meanwhile, Sports Minister and a Congress candidate representing Udharbondh constituency, Ajit Singh, said that he has had talks with the Chief Secretary on the issue and steps will be taken to solve the crisis situation very soon.
On the other hand, the flash flood in Chiri river has inundated more than 1 km area at Ghantagram near Pailapool in the Silchar-Jiribam-Imphal road on NH 37.
