GUWAHATI, Sept 30 - Senior journalist Ajit Patowary was today accorded a warm felicitation at a farewell function held under the aegis of the Assam Tribune Employees' Union (ATEU) at the establishment office.
Patowary, who had joined The Assam Tribune in November 1992, was its Chief Reporter for the last ten years before retiring from service today.
The meeting, presided over by PJ Baruah, Executive Editor, The Assam Tribune, was addressed by Deputy Editor Ramanuj Dutta Choudhury, Champak Barbara, Indrani Rai Medhi, Raheswar Chiring, Rabindra Sharma, Madan Kalita, Dhaneswar Deka and Sivasish Thakur.
The speakers who represented various departments of The Assam Tribune recollected their association with Patowary, sharing anecdotes and terming the latter a dedicated, committed and fearless journalist who contributed significantly to the State�s journalism through his in-depth and well-researched news reports, especially in the spheres of Assam�s history, heritage, culture, ethnicity, politics, etc.
Earlier, Tankeswar Kakati, assistant general secretary of ATEU, gave the welcome address. Patowary, who was felicitated with a shawl, books and other gifts, thanked his colleagues and urged them to work in unison to uphold the hallowed legacy of The Assam Tribune.
Baruah, in his speech, lauded the role of Patowary in giving a distinct shape to news reporting in The Assam Tribune and said that his analytical and well-researched writings highlighting the State�s diverse and complicated issues would inspire aspiring journalists to take up the profession with seriousness and commitment.
