Hearing on power tariff proposals

GUWAHATI, Sept 11 � The Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission (AERC) today organised a daylong hearing on the objections filed against the tariff proposals submitted by the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd, (APDCL), Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Ltd (AEGCL) and Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd (APGCL) for revision of the revised Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) and Tariff Adjustment for the financial year of 2014-15, at the Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium, Sarusajai here.

The hearing that was held under the chairmanship of Naba Kumar Das, saw seven respondents raising various objections regarding the proposed revision of ARR and tariff adjustment.

As a respondent, secretary of the Assam Branch Indian Tea Association (ABITA) Sandip Ghosh, focused on various problems faced by the tea estates of the State and called on the AERC to take necessary measures for solving these problems.

State president of the North Eastern Small Scale Industries Association (NESSIA) Sailen Baruah, secretary of Grahak Suraksha Sanstha Bharat Saikia, general secretary of All Assam SSI Association Arup Kumar Dutta and Sumanta Chand spoke on the problems faced by the small scale industries and general public due to the tariff hike.

JN Khataniar of Shrishtee and public activist Deven Dutta spoke on the various objections raised against the tariff proposals submitted by the APDCL, AEGCL and APGCL and offered various suggestions for rectification.

After the hearing, the AERC Chairman assured the respondents that all the objections raised and suggestions offered by them would be reviewed thoroughly and necessary measures would be taken accordingly by the Commission.

On the occasion, along with chairperson Das, Dr Rajani Kanta Gogoi and D Chakrabarty, members of the Commission were also present, said an official press release.
