Hearing on cement plant

JORABAT, April 20 - The Pollution Control Board Assam today conducted a public hearing in the premises of Ambher LP School at 12th Mile near Jorabat on the issue of setting up of a proposed cement plant with the capacity to produce 500 TPD clinker and 500 TPD cement, in 12th Mile area.

Local people of the area were present at the public hearing. Ambher village headman Davis Arrengh was also present.

ADC of East Kamrup district and in-charge Circle Officer of Sonapur revenue circle Munindra Nath Ngatey and Pollution Control Board officials were present during the hearing, where all the stakeholders put forward their opinions on establishment of the cement plant in the area.

Majority of the local people and residents supported establishment of the factory on the condition that 100 per cent employment shall be given to local people of the State and the village. Another condition given by the villagers was that the pollution control system of the factory must be efficiently and regularly monitored.

The factory authorities have affirmed that they would abide by the conditions of the villagers.
