GUWAHATI, Oct 2 - Reiterating the State Government�s commitment to stand with the people in their times of need, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said that the State health sector was going through a massive transformation and people�s health needs would be taken care of by the Health Department on a war footing.
Speaking at the cheque distribution function of Assam Arogya Nidhi to beneficiaries under the National Health Mission at GMCH auditorium, he said all pending Arogya Nidhi applications have been cleared. In February next, a similar function will be held and cheques distributed among all eligible beneficiaries.
A total of 1,978 beneficiaries were given Assam Arogya Nidhi cheques for life-threatening ailments such as cancer, kidney diseases, heart ailments, etc, with the objective of giving a helping hand in their fight against the diseases. Of these 1,978 beneficiaries, 1,548 were cancer patients, 79 kidney disease patients, 154 had heart ailments and the rest 197 comprised patients suffering from other diseases.
Similarly, with a view to providing benefits to people for treatment of critical diseases, the government also announced the Atal Amrit Abhiyan today. This Abhiyan, which will be fully functional from April 1, 2017, will provide financial benefits up to Rs 2 lakh and help patients for treatment of diseases like cancer, heart ailment, kidney disease, burn, etc. Beneficiaries could avail the benefits of the Abhiyan by producing the Atal Amrit Abhiyan card at any hospital in the country. Sonowal also participated in a meeting organised by the Khadi and Gramodyog Board at Chandmari and spoke about the need to revive the khadi industry. Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also spoke on the occasion.
