GUWAHATI, Feb 19 Assam Government is all set to launch an ambitious health scheme for children with hole in their heart, a disease which is believed to have affected a sizeable number of children in the State.
The scheme, expected to be announced in a day or two, would also encompass other child health complications like malnutrition, prevalent among children mostly from poverty-stricken areas.
State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today told newsmen that cleft surgery of a good number of children could not be performed after medical team detected hole in their hearts during the screening of children under the Operation Smile mission.
We came to know about several commonly found health complications among the children during the screening under Operation Smile and we would be soon focusing on that, Sarma pointed out, adding reducing child mortality is a priority for the State health sector.
We have decided to launch the scheme and preliminary nitty-gritty of the scheme would be cleared in the next couple of days, Sarma added.
