Health mela, cancer screening camp

GUWAHATI, July 1 - A health mela and cancer screening and awareness camp was jointly organised by the 1st year MSc nursing students of Community Health Nursing Department, Regional College of Nursing, Guwahati, and Child and Mother Welfare Institute, Ulubari, Guwahati recently at the Sonapur District Hospital, according to a press release here today.

A medical team from the Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) led by Dr Srabana Misra Bhagawati and Dr Ajit Kr Missong, was present at the event for the purpose of screening and awareness on cancer.

Dr Ulupi Phukan Baruah, Superintendent of Sonapur District Hospital addressed the gathering with an inaugural speech. Her speech was followed by an awareness programme on cancer carried out by the medical team from BBCI.

An oral cancer and cervical cancer screening was done by the team from BBCI.

As part of the health mela which was conducted along with the cancer screening camp, posters, charts and models on various health-related matters were displayed by the MSc nursing students.

Those present included Dr Kaberi Saikia and Dr Hemeswari Bhuyan from the Regional College of Nursing; Jagjit Baruah and Pubali Baruah from the Child and Mother Welfare Institute and Dr PK Padmapati of Sonapur District Hospital.
