GUWAHATI, April 25 � The Narayana Superspeciality Hospital organised a health screening camp for members of the Assam State Primary Teachers� Association. Apart from general health screening, doctors from the hospital also examined heart and orthopaedic ailments such as backache, spine problems, arthritis, weak bones and other bone and joint-related health issues. Over 200 primary school teachers benefited from the free check-up camp.
The camp was conducted to promote preventive healthcare with the objective of detecting any possible health issues in the areas of cardiology, orthopaedics and medicine so that the same can be diagnosed and treated at the earliest.
Dr DR Marak (orthopaedic surgeon), Dr Ritankur Barkotoky (senior cardiologist), Dr Anujit Baruah (cardiologist) and Dr Soumar Dutta (critical care and emergency medicine) participated in the camp and conducted the preliminary diagnosis of all individuals.
Cervical spondylosis was commonly observed in most teachers due to improper posture, long-duration desk jobs and age-related factors. Hypertension was another common problem reported, which increases the risks of developing cardiovascular diseases, according to the doctors.
Regular exercise, medicines and lifestyle modification were prescribed to the patients as per their needs. �Improper lifestyle and dietary habits, long working hours without any break, stress and age-related factors are negatively affecting the health of the teachers who are mostly unaware of the ailments unless they are diagnosed� said Retd Wg Cdr Ghosh, Facility Director at the Narayana Superspeciality Hospital here.
The camp, a first by the hospital with the primary teachers� association, was attended by teachers from across Kamrup, Upper and Lower Assam. The hospital seeks to undertake many more initiatives with the association in the near future as healthy and informed teachers can lead to healthy schools.
