Health centre opened at USTM campus

GUWAHATI, Nov 28 - The Techno City health centre of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya, (USTM) was inaugurated by Dr MN Baruah, Managing Director, North East Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (NECHRI) today at the Amenity Centre of the varsity�s 9th mile campus.

The health centre has been established with the aim to serve the local communities living around the USTM campus, apart from the students and staff members of the varsity.

On the occasion, a free health check-up was also organised for the local people.

During his address, the chief guest Dr MN Baruah expressed his concern for today�s young generation who are becoming victims of tobacco consumption and drug addiction. He urged the students to guard against tobacco addiction and be responsible towards themselves and society at large.

Dr Baruah praised the University authorities for opening such a healthcare facility not only for the students and staff, but also for the local communities.

M Hoque, Chancellor of the University, while addressing the gathering said that the students need not have to go outside the campus now for minor medical assistance, as they can avail the facility inside the campus itself. He further said that the University is looking forward to a collaboration with NECHRI, which will expand the scope to start different courses related to health sciences at USTM.

The other distinguished guests present were Dr WS Khonjirem, Dr DK Nath and I Goswami, the administrative officer from NECHRI, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr RK Sharma and the Chief Medical Officer Dr Ismail Hussain, said a statement.
