Health camp for flood victims

GUWAHATI, July 20 - A mega health check-up camp was organised at Kalangpur Inspector Bungalow, Sonapur today by the District Health Society, Kamrup Metro district to cater to the medical needs of people affected by flood, especially spread of communicable diseases and treatment of non-communicable diseases of the affected population.

Attending the camp, Joint Director of Health Services Dr Ganesh Saikia informed that after flood, affected people are generally seen with wounds, injuries, skin-related problems, acute respiratory infections, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps along with chronic non-communicable diseases.

Around 500 patients were treated at the camp where medical specialists from various departments rendered their services. Laboratory facility was also provided at the camp. Awareness sessions on safe drinking water, personal hygiene, first aid tips, sanitation and common infection prevention were also conducted.

Free medicines were distributed among the people. Facilities for free screening for diabetes and malaria were made available. A mobile medical unit of the State government was also stationed with all its facilities like X-ray and ECG.
