By LAW Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 2 - A division bench of the Gauhati High Court comprising Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Paran Kr Phukan, after hearing a criminal appeal, through a judgement and order passed on May 17, upheld the sentence of life imprisonment against Shymalendu Deb and Chandra Sekhar Dhar passed by the Sessions Judge, Kamrup, Guwahati, on June 22, 2012.

The two appellants were convicted by the Sessions Judge under Section 302/34 of the IPC for the murder of Shipra Dey, wife of Shyamalendu Deb, on March 20, 2006 by pouring kerosene oil on her at their residence in Maligaon, sentencing them to life imprisonment.

The court, after examining the evidence of all witnesses and considering the dying declaration of the victim, did not find any merit in the appeal and accordingly, dismissed it. As both the appellants were on bail during the pendecy of the appeal, the court cancelled their bail and directed them to surrender.
