HC stays order on Arunachal MLAs disqualification

By LAW Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 5 - The Gauhati High Court, after hearing a writ petition, today stayed the order of disqualification of 14 MLAs of the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly passed on December 15 by the Assembly Speaker. The writ petition was filed by Pema Khandu and 13 other Congress MLAs, who were disqualified by the Speaker under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution.

The petitioners contended that the order of disqualification was passed by the Speaker in violation of natural justice, without giving them opportunity of a hearing.

Justice BK Sharma, after hearing the writ petition, issued a notice upon the respondents and fixed January 7, 2016, to hear the case.
