GUWAHATI, Dec 22 - The Gauhati High Court has revoked the suspension of the trade certificate of Poddar Car World Private Limited Khanapara, that was slapped on it by the transport department recently enabling it to resume normal business activity.
The District Transport Office, Kamrup (Metro) had temporarily halted operations of the car dealer on December 14 by suspending its trade certificate based on the allegation of a customer who had claimed that he was sold an old vehicle as new.
After the incident, Poddar Car World approached the High Court claiming that the transport department had suspended its trade licence without hearing their version or issuing any prior notice, which is a norm.
CEO of Poddar Car World Anup Poddar said, We have done nothing wrong. It is quite illogical to believe that an old car can be sold as new by repainting it. The DTO should be capable of understanding such nuances as they ideally deal with the sector at large. Without giving us a chance to explain ourselves, they took instant action.
In a press statement today, Poddar Car World claimed that the customer, a resident of Kamrup district, had requested for a test drive of a particular vehicle. When the vehicle was taken to the customers residence by the salesperson, it was not returned as a customary process.
However, the HC allowed the authorities to serve notice to the petitioner Poddar Car World asking it to show cause giving at least seven days time to submit its reply and proceed on the matter afresh.
