SILCHAR, Oct 8 - The Gauhati High Court issued a show-cause notice to four NF Railway officials on October 6 in response to a contempt of court petition filed by the Citizens Forum, Silchar, the members of the forum said. The petition was filed by the forum on September 30 for the failure of the NF Railway to comply with the court order in wrapping up the broad-gauge conversion work within March this year.
The show-cause notice was issued against Secretary of Railway, RN Singh, General Manager of NF Railway, RK Gupta, Chief Administrative Officer, Ajit Pandit, and Deputy Chief Engineer, DN Bhaskar.
Advocate Dhruba Kumar Saha, joint secretary of the forum who filed the petition, told the mediapersons that the forum had been asking the NF Railway officials to come up with proper replies of any defect on the Lumding-Silchar route.
A legal notice was served on June by the forum after which the Chief Administrative Officer, Ajit Pandit, sought time till August to complete the task and start the passenger train services, Saha added. They served an ultimatum on 27 August seeking clarification from the NF Railway on the issue.
However, when promises did not materialise, the forum decided to file the contempt petition in the larger interest of the people of Barak Valley, Saha said.
