HC directs ONGC, OIL to pay royalty

GUWAHATI, July 22 - The Gauhati High Court, after hearing a writ petition filed by the State government, directed the ONGC and the Oil India Limited (OIL) to pay royalty on crude oil at the pre-discounted price in two installments.

The writ petition was filed against the Central government, ONGC and OIL for not paying the royalty on crude oil to the State government. Justice AK Goswami, after hearing the case and taking into consideration the Supreme Court direction in the context of a pending SLP filed by ONGC against Gujarat, passed the order in favour of State government. The court further directed to pay the royalty on crude oil from February 1, 2014 in two installments and the first installments by August 8, 2016 and second installments by September 7, 2016.
