HC directive to GMC on garbage collection tender

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 18 - The Gauhati High Court has asked the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) not to issue any final order on its latest tender related to garbage collection in the city, till August 30, 2017 and maintain the status quo as regard to the service rendered by the NGOs currently engaged in the process.

Hearing a petition of the 17 NGOs engaged in the garbage disposal work, the Court stated that until the returnable date, status quo as regard to the service rendered by the petitioners shall be maintained and the authorities shall not issue any final order on the invitation for bid (IFB), dated August 7, 2017, without the leave of the Court.

It may be noted that the contract for conservancy was awarded to the NGOs initially for three years, ending on June 30, 2017. Later, the service was extended for another two months. The Corporation has invited bids from new NGOs and parties from August 7, 2017 for awarding the contract.

Whereas the technical bid of the tender was opened today, the date for opening the financial bid is on August 22.
