Harsh Vardhan inaugurates IBSD centre in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, July 28 - Union Minister for Science and Technology, Harsh Vardhan today inaugurated the Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), a National Institute of Department of Biotechnology at Upper Shillong.

In his address, the Union Minister said that IBSD will provide a platform for bio-based entrepreneurship not only for the State of Meghalaya but can serve as the hub of the entire Northeastern region.

He also announced the setting up the state of the art Orchidarium at Meghalaya and also distributed orchid saplings to women entrepreneurs, farmers and unemployed youths of the State. Vardhan also requested the State Government to provide land and all support to IBSD for the development of orchid based-entrepreneurship.

Meghalaya Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling, in his address expressed happiness at the setting up of this facility in the State. He also assured that all assistance would be provided by the State Government to the IBSD.

IBSD Director, Dinabandhu Sahoo said that �The main mandate of IBSD is the conservation and sustainable utilisation of bio-resources for the socio-economic development of the region.�

With this setup, IBSD has established its physical presence with high-end facilities and infrastructure in Manipur, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Mizoram.
