Harishnagar LP School bags Green and Clean Award

By CORRESPONDENT

HAILAKANDI, Oct 4 - The Green and Clean School Award of Hailakandi district has been given to 253 No. Harishnagar LP School.

The Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Keerthi Jalli presented the trophy and certificate to the BEEO, Katlicherra Shailen Roy, SI, Riazuddin, CRCC Tanmoy Roy and head teacher of the school at a function held on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti at Gandhighat here on Wednesday.

Established in 1949, the LP School is a hallmark of swachhata with clean classrooms, toilets and corridors with a beautiful garden nurtured by the students and teachers alike.

Every morning the swachhata ambassadors enter the school and make it a point to check classrooms, corridors and the prayer ground for any dirty spot.

Although their efforts will not help them in getting extra marks in exams but it helped earn their school a place of pride among hundreds of schools across the district in winning the Green and Clean Award.

Cleanliness has become a way of life for the 81 students. The moment they enter the school, they check classrooms, corridors and the playground to see if any spot is unclean. If they spot anything, they pick them up and throw them into the dustbin, said Inspector of Schools, Rajiv Kumar Jha.

Credit for the success also goes to the head teacher and three faculty members for inculcating cleanliness habits among the children and making sure that garbage is always thrown in dustbin, water tanks are kept clean and toilets are hygienic. Sanitation workers alone cannot keep the school clean. Students and teachers have to take pride in the school and that can happen only if they actively participate in maintaining the school, said Jha, adding that students are informed every morning about the importance of keeping the school hygienic and clean.

Students need to understand the importance of keeping their surrounding clean. If they study in clean classrooms, they can focus on their studies better, he said.

Indeed the award will be a shot in the arm for the school and teachers and students alike, he added.
