TURA, April 30 - A hardcore criminal who had become a terror was killed today in an early morning encounter with police forces in South Garo Hills.
The criminal identified as Saljagring D Sangma (Khuda) from Warima, Williamnagar in East Garo Hills was also involved in the brutal thrashing of the gaonbura (village head) of Gandagre village in SGH. He was associated with another criminal, Dinesh Ch Marak, who had earlier escaped from Williamnagar prison last year.
The incident took place in Gandragre village under Baghmara PS. The two criminals were involved in kidnappings, extortions as well as smuggling of arms.
�The encounter took place early morning today. They were trying to smuggle in arms and were planning more kidnappings and extortions. They were becoming a big threat to peace and law and order in the area,� said Anand Mishra, SP of the district.
The police recovered one 9MM pistol, one magazine with 4 live rounds, 2 AK live rounds, a mobile phone and at least 4 SIM cards from the encounter site.
