GANGTOK, April 15 - The Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) has praised the Sikkim Government for being able to keep the State free from COVID-19 so far. As of now, Sikkim is the only State in the country with no positive case occurring within its borders.

But the party feels more should be done for people stranded outside the State, said HSP spokesperson Biraj Adhikari.

The party, however, acknowledged that support has been extended to Sikkimese people stranded outside through a notification on Tuesday, providing contact numbers for some cities around the country.

We understand that the decision makers are focused on ensuring that nobody enters the State at this period of time and we will firmly support whatever decisions the Government might take in future to avoid the pandemic within the State. But more needs to be done for weaker sections of Sikkimese people stranded outside, said Adhikari. The State Government should accommodate the stranded by opening up the properties of the Government or renting hotels and guesthouses.

Adhikari also raised the issue of racial attacks on people from the North East, including Sikkim.
