Hamren town faces water crisis

By Correspondent

DIPHU, April 29 - Hamren, which is said to be the focal point of Karbi Anglong, has been facing severe shortage of drinking water for the past several weeks. According to a section of concerned citizens, the Public Health Engineering (PHE) has also failed to provide steady supply of potable water in the town forcing them to procure water from the private vendors at higher prices. The PHE department had set up pipelines a couple of years back in order to provide drinking water to the households. But strangely enough, the people are yet to get the benefit.

We have been demanding the authorities concerned to provide drinking water, but in vain. We are forced to procure water at high rates due to the ongoing lockdown, a section of senior citizens told this correspondent. They also alleged that the pipelines which were laid got rusted making their life miserable. The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) should take prompt action considering the gravity of the situation, they said, adding that a new water supply scheme should be installed in the area.
