GUWAHATI, Aug 18 � As a part of Techniche, the students of IIT Guwahati will organise Guwahati Half Marathon on August 26. Addressing a press conference here today the organising committee members Marmeek Kosambia and Labano Konwar revealed that the half marathon has been organised as a part of Techniche which is organised by the IIT students to promote the development and honing of scientific and entrepreneurial skills in the academia, being socially responsible at the same time.
It is for the fourth year that the Techniche is being organised in the city where Half Marathon is also a major event along with others. The marathon will be organised in three different categories-21 km run for professionals and athletes, 6 km run for general public and general championship for colleges which is designed for college teams.
Kosambia mentioned that prize-money will be given for the 21 km and 6 km races which will start at the Sonaram HS School playground at 6 am and 6.45 am respectively.
In the 21 km race the first three position holders will become richer by Rs 50,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. Top 10 position holders will be given prize-money said Kosambia. On the other hand top three position holders in the 6 km race will also get prize-money. The races will be finished at the Nehru Stadium where a painting competition will be organised to mark the occasion at 7 am.
