Hailstorm wreaks havoc on Dhubri villages

GOLAKGANJ, May 5 � A severe hailstorm lashed Patamari, Abuler Char and Sasterghat (Part Two) villages under the Dhubri Police Station and many other places on Sunday night, destroying houses and uprooting trees.

According to sources, a total of 800 families were affected by the hailstorm in the village areas of Dhubri subdivision. Many trees were uprooted in the fierce storm. Nine persons � Ajibar Rahman, Pettu Sheikh, Nayabul Sheikh, Hanif Ali, Sahinur Khatun, Manik Ali, Ajibar Sheikh, Samida Khatun and Milki Bibi � were injured at Sasterghat (Part Two) village due to the hailstorm.

Several hectares of cropped area in Dhubri district were affected due to the massive rainfall following the hailstorm. The farmers are demanding compensation for the damage caused by the hailstorm.
