Hailstorm damages houses, crops in Manipur

IMPHAL, April 2 - Light to heavy rains, accompanied with hailstorms, which hit several areas in Manipur since early morning today have damaged many houses and standing crops.

A Santro car and an autorickshaw were also reported damaged when branches of an uprooted tree fell on the vehicles near Churachandpur police station this afternoon.

Life in the State capital here has also been affected by strong wind and hailstorms in the afternoon.

However, no casualties were reported in the hailstorm which wreaked havoc in many villages under Saikot, Singhat and Churachandpur subdivisions, reports said.

The hailstorm damaged around 50 houses at Saljang, Thenmuol, M Shimol, Saipum, Mualpi and Misao Lhahvom, ccording to sources.

The hailstorm also destroyed standing crops at many places including farm areas under Bishnupur district.
