Hailakandi wins best city in �Innovation, Best Practices�

HAILAKANDI, Aug 21 - Hailakandi district of South Assam has emerged as numero uno in Assam as the best city in �Innovation and Best Practices� under Swachh Survekshan 2020.

This was announced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, during the virtual platform Swacch Mahotsav Award ceremony on Thursday.

The Hailakandi Municipal Board (HMB) in the category of population ranging from 25,000 to 50,000 emerged as No.1 in Assam out of 17 ULBs and No. 3 in the North East Zone out 29 ULBs.

The HMB with a population of 33,637 according to population census 2011 has a total of 17 wards.

Deputy Commissioner, Megh Nidhi Dahal, Executive Officer, HMB, Tridib Roy and other officials were present in the video conferencing when the results were announced during the virtual platform Swacch Mahotsav Award ceremony.

Deputy Commissioner, Dahal and Executive Officer, HMB, Roy complimented all the ex-board members, former Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli, the Municipal Board and Swacch Bharat teams of Hailakandi, including safai karmacharis for bagging the prestigious award and bringing laurels to the district.

�This prestigious award has given us the boost and we shall strive to do better and remain No.1 always. We would like to dedicate this award to the people of the district who cooperated with us all along,� said an elated Roy.
