Hailakandi BDO suspended

GUWAHATI, Dec 9 - The Government of Assam has placed Mainul Haque Choudhury, Block Development Officer, Hailakandi Development Block, Hailakandi under suspension under Rule 6 (2) of the Assam Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1964 with effect from 27/10/2016.

The Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi reported through a letter dated 27/10/2016, that Mainul Haque Choudhury was arrested on 27/10/2016 in connection with Hailakandi Police Station Case No 412/2016 U/S 120 (B)/409/468/418/420 IPC and forwarded to judicial custody and he remained in Judicial Custody for more than 48 hours.

Rule 6(2) of the Assam Service (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964 envisages that any Government servant if detained in police custody, whether on a criminal charge or otherwise, for a period exceeding 48 hours, shall be deemed to have been suspended with effect from the date of such detention by an order of the appointing authority and shall remain under suspension until further orders.

Accordingly, the Government of Assam is satisfied that it it is necessary in the interest of public service to place Mainul Haque Choudhury, BDO, Hailakandi Development Block, under suspension, the press release said.
