Hagrama tables surplus BTC Budget

KOKRAJHAR, March 21 - BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary today presented the council budget for the year 2017-18 before the house. The budget proposed total estimated expenditure at Rs 201741.43 lakh against total estimated receipt of Rs 202172.81 lakh with a surplus of Rs 431.38 lakh.

Presenting the Budget on the first day of the two-day BTC Legislative Assembly Budget session that began today at the BTC Legislative Assembly House, Bodofa Nwgwr here, Mohilary, who is also the head of the Finance department, said that the Council is committed to achieve the growth target as per the Plan allocation.

At the same time he also said that in view of active role taken by the BTC government, Prime Minister Narendra Modo in his public rally in Kokrajhar, encouraged the State government to facilitate developmental activities in BTC area. In order to meet the critical infrastructure gap to usher the development in this area, the govt of Assam has allocated fund of Rs 20000 lakh as development grants and Rs 2500 lakh to strengthen infrastructure under education sector in the current State Budget of 2017-18 over and above of allocation of fund for State Own Priority Development (SOPD) to BTC.

Mohilary also underlined the major thrusts being given by the BTC with active support of State government in the financial year 2017-18. �State government has earmarked Rs 25 crore for Bodoland University, Kokrajhar, Rs 10 crore for BB Engineering College in the name of �Tejasvi Navaditamastu� funds for infrastructure development of professional colleges and universities to be spent over a period of three to four years. Moreover, BTC government has decided to acquire additional land for BTC Secretariat and Helipad attached to BTC Secretariat, for which an amount of Rs 2300 lakh has been earmarked during 2017-18 under SOPD,� he said.

It may be mentioned here that the regular appointment and salaries of TET qualified candidates of BTC was the central point of today�s Council session, among other issues.

In reply to queries, BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary, who is also the in-charge of Education department, said that there were 3361 TET qualified candidates in BTC area and they were not engaged as regular teachers. However, 763 TET qualified candidates were appointed as regular teachers, those who were engaged under SSA. As and when SIU approval was received from the government of Assam against vacant posts, the SSA contractual teachers will be regularised in a phased manner. Again out of 3361 contractual teachers engaged by the BTC, 1193 will be converted to SSA contractual teachers after getting order of relaxation of professional qualification from government of India, he said.

Meanwhile, BPF party today expelled the organising Secretary of BPF Sahadev Das from the BPF, who is also one of the master minds of Silapathar incident. The decision has been taken in a CWC meeting of BPF party held here today.
