BONGAIGAON, Dec 28 - Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary on Tuesday inaugurated the �Dwijing Festival� on the bank of the Aie river near Hagrama Dalang in Chirang district.
This 12-day festival, which was organised last year as the �Aie river winter festival� has got new name this year as Dwijing Festival.
With the budget of Rs 78.83 crore, the 1.12-km long Hagrama Dalang was constructed on May 25 in 2013 on the Aie river connecting Tulsijhora and Khagrabari and thus facilitating the surface communication between the northern part of the district and Bhutan with National Highway 31C and Bongaigaon district headquarters. The festival venue and the bridge is 5- km north from the national highway at Chapaguri.
Stalls have been installed on the bank of the river for selling handicraft items and traditional foods.
Paragliding, parasailing, horse and elephant riding, boating, helicopter brief-trips, showcasing of traditional games of indigenous communities have been arranged for the visitors, said Sidli legislator Chandan Brahma.
A State-level archery competition will also be held in the festival venue on January 3 and 4, Brahma added.
