By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, Oct 31 - Former chief of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) president Hagrama Mahilary on Saturday campaigned at Thaikajhora in Chirang district for his party candidate and former deputy chief of the council Kampa Borgoyari who has been fielded in No-14 Chirang Duar council seat for the upcoming BTC polls.

Mohilary, addressing the huge gathering at Thaikajhora Rhino field, said that the victory of Borgoyari is sure in the upcoming polls and in his next government in the council Kampa will again be the deputy chief.

United Peoples Party Liberal (UPPL) leader Pramod Boro is going to destroy the Bodos. Leaders of the party like Pramod and Ferenga had opposed the governments step to grant tribal status to Koch Rajbongshi and Adivasi community. They had signed Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) accord with an intention to evict the non-Bodo communities from their lands, Mahilary said.

Former leader of National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), Ranjit Basumatary alias BR Ferenga, has been projected as a candidate by the UPPL in the No-14 Chirang Duar seat against BPF contender Kampa Borgoyari.

We started giving land pattas to the landless settlers of the council area without any discrimination and we are committed to reform those clauses of the BTR accord which go against the interests of the non-Bodo communities of the council, Mahilary added.

Bodo Women Justice Forum president Anjali Daimary, who was also present in the public meeting, said that his brother and NDFB leader Ranjan Daimary was used by the government only to facilitate Bodo peace talk with all the factions of NDFB and again he was thrown into the jail, which according to her, was an injustice.

Candidate Kampa Borgoyari told the mediapersons about various developments that have been seen during the BPF rule in the BTC and pointed out State governments apathy towards the growth of the northern areas of the river Brahmaputra before the formation of the council.

Minister Chandan Brahma also spoke in the meeting and sought support of the people for his party candidate Kampa Borgoyaris victory in the upcoming polls.

Total number of voters in Chirang Duar council seat is around 52,000 comprising Bodo, Adivasi, Gorkha, Koch Rajbongshi and other minority communities.
