Haflong Lake Revival Week inaugurated

GUWAHATI, April 25 � The Haflong Lake Revival Week from April 21 to 27, organised by MaD (Make a Difference), Haflong, in collaboration with SOUL (Save Our Lake), was inaugurated by NCHAC Chief Executive Member Debojeet Thaosen on April 21 at Haflong Lake Arena, Incredible India Campus, a press release received here stated.

In his inaugural speech, CEM Thaosen recalled the period when the Britishers constructed the lake to make water available to the people of Haflong town. But now the people of Haflong have encroached on the surroundings of the lake for habitation and the lake has become a dumping ground, thereby leading to its pollution. So, the efforts made by leading NGOs, associations and people of Haflong collectively for the first time in Dima Hasao is a matter of appreciation, Thaosen said.

He also appealed to everybody to launch such programmes in Dima Hasao to make the district a beautiful tourist location. The programme also included a theme song, performance by Pipe Band and Jazz Band, besides other items. During the programme, the CEM along with other dignitaries launched a Swachh Abhiyan at Haflong Lake.

The programme was also attended by NCHAC executive members Debo Hojai, Denis Teron and Ranu Langthasa, MAC Iheuing Pame, Haflong Town Committee vice chairman John Poithong, dignitaries from the Assam Police and 22 Sector Assam Rifles, students and members of various associations and organisations, NGOs and a large number of general people.

On April 23, as part of the Haflong Lake Revival Week, a cleanliness drive led by CEM Thaosen was conducted in which members of Make a Difference, Save our Lake, dignitaries, school students, members of the general public and 50 jawans of 22 Sector Assam Rifles took part, the release added.
