HAFLONG, Aug 12 - In order to streamline the management of Haflong Jagannath bari, the Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner Juri Phukan in consultation with the office bearers of the former management committee, dissolved the existing committee of Jagannath bari on Tuesday.
The DC summoned the existing committee of Jagannath bari and held a detailed discussion in the presence of the Executive Magistrate, Deepak Jidung, at her office chamber and only then, the committees were dissolved.
The Deputy Commissioner, while expressing surprise that the century-old Jagannath Bari was not registered, said that the district administration would convene a widely-publicised meeting within the next 15 days or so, to enable the public to put forward its views and chose a new committee. She also suggested that a new constitution be prepared regarding the functioning of the management committee very soon. In this regard, a note was also readied, which would be provided to all the people of Haflong in particular and of Dima Hasao in general.
It may be mentioned that the former management repeatedly came under fire for not maintaining transparency and for indulging in nepotism and favouritism.
The citizens of the town have welcomed the step taken by the Deputy Commissioner.
