Hackers spread tentacles in Nagaon, loot Rs 8 lakh

NAGAON, May 28 - Sensation prevailed in Nagaon after a gang of hackers looted around Rs 8 lakh from the account of an SBI customer through Internet shopping system.

This shocking incident has drawn sharp reactions among SBI account holders in the district.

According to sources, a government pensioner, named Abdul Gonie from Maheripar under the Juria Police Station here, deposited a few lakhs of rupees at the SBI, Haiborgaon branch after retirement from his service.

It came to the notice of the victim today when he went to the bank to withdraw money from his account. From May 22 to 26, around Rs 8 lakh was found debited from his account, added the sources.

It was later found that he had been a target of a large gang of hackers and his mobile phone number was also hacked by them.

Meanwhile, the victim lodged an FIR in this regard and a case has been registered. Police have started an investigation into the incident.
