Guwahati, Nov 8: The National Public School at Lalunggaon on Monday declared a micro containment zone after detection of Covid positive students in the institution.

The school authority has been directed to close the institution for seven days, while the area will be sealed by the circle officer. Movement of unauthorized people has been banned in the area. Initially, a teacher was found to be Covid positive. Later, in contact tracing, 29 students have been found to be positive for the virus so far.

Around 400 tests were carried out in the institution. Sixteen were found to be positive in RAT and 13 in RT-PCR, ADC (health) Sharmistha Borah said. All the infected students are from higher classes. This is the third school in the city to be hit by the infection after the government ordered reopening of educational institutions in the State.

Earlier, the Garigan Balika Moktab and Kamakhya High School were declared containment zones for seven days after detection of Covid infection among three teachers and the headmaster respectively.

The infection has been detected even among vaccinated staff.
