Guwahati, May 18: As Covid-19 cases continue to mount in Assam, a Congress MP has come stepped up to provide some help in these trying times.

Lok Sabha member from Nagaon, Pradyut Bordoloi, has opened 'MP's Covid Care Facilitation Centre, Nagaon', near the civil hospital of the district to help those in need. The centre provides relevant information for Covid-19 patients and their families, including helpline phone numbers and Whatsapp numbers. Bordoloi is himself leading the initiative, lending a helping hand to the volunteers, right from cleaning the floor to being available in person to reply to any query. A Central Covid Control Room had already been opened at the state Congress headquarter, Rajiv Bhavan, here on April 27 to extend all support to those in need.

Nagaon has reported the fourth highest number of new COVID 19 cases in the last 10 days in the State, with 2767 cases since May 8.

Meanwhile, the state Congress is also devising strategies to help the public in the fight against the Covid-19 surge in the State. AICC general secretary in-charge of Assam Jitendra Singh and Rajya MP and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora yesterday held marathon meetings, through video conference, with district Congress committee (DCC) chiefs and Assam Assembly Congress candidates of Upper and North Assam districts to discuss the situation in their respective districts. Such meetings will continue till May 19, covering all DCCs.

The meeting took into account the various problems faced by the public in hospitals, containment zones as well as in getting through the process of online registration for vaccination.
