Guwahati, May 9: Chief Minister-elect Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today met Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi to stake claim to form the next government in the State.



After being elected as the BJP legislature party leader earlier today, Dr Sarma, accompanied by outgoing chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, senior party leaders and leaders of the alliance partners, met Prof. Mukhi at the Raj Bhavan this evening.


Dr Sarma will be sworn-in as the 15th chief minister of Assam at 12 noon tomorrow at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra here. Besides MLAs from the BJP, legislators of allies Asom Gana Parishad and United People's Party Liberal are also likely to take oath tomorrow as ministers in the new government.
