GMC officials abused and assaulted at Zoo Road, FIR lodged

Guwahati, June 9: On 07-06-2021, an incident took place near zoo-road, Jonali, where a group of people misbehaved and assaulted GMC officials and created hindrance in lawful discharge of duties by public servant.

The workers of Guwahati Municipal corporation (GMC) were engaged in cleaning of roads and sewages at Zoo Road, Jonali. Shri Satyajyoti Baruah, ACS, Joint Commissioner-1, GMC, along with other officials of GMC, were inspecting the conservancy works of GMC. At around 11:00 p.m, a group of 4-5 persons got off from a swift desire bearing no. AS0l HC5235 and threw garbage at the main road in front of a shop Mls Junali Electricals. The GMC officials tried to restrain them from throwing garbage in the street and tried to make them understand the hard work that officials and workers of GMC are undertaking to keep the city clean. But they argued and threatened to repeat the same in future. One of the employees of GMC, Shri Nagen Kalita, tried to videograph the entire incident but they started using filthy language and physically assaulted him. They even threatened to throw away and break the mobile phone and went away in the car.


One person indulged in the above incident is identified to be Shri Asish Sarkar. He is a resident of House No. 72, Jonali, Zoo-Road. He is also the landlord of the shop Mls Junali Electricals. The incident has been reported in Gitanagar Police Station by lodging an FIR today on 09-06-2021 to enquire the matter and take necessary and appropriate steps as per the provisions of law.


GMC has also initiated necessary action in this regard. The suspension of trade licence of Mls Junali Electricals is under process.
