Guwahati, Oct 26: Panic gripped Survey area of Guwahati after an elderly couple living alone at House no 1 of Chandan Nagar was found murdered under mysterious circumstances inside their house early this morning.

The deceased have been identified as Nonigopal Baruah, a retired engineer, and his wife Mina Baruah, a retired teacher.

Police said the both the bodies bore multiple injury marks indicating that the assailants hit the couple with a semi-blunt object leading to the elderly couple's death.

"Preliminary investigational suggest the motive behind the murder could be robbery although we are not in a position to rule out anything at this moment," a senior police official said, adding, " A detailed list of objects stolen, if any, is also to be made."

The assailants had apparently broken into the house after removing the grill of one of the windows of the house.
