Guwahati, Nov 8: Assam tea will now come in braille friendly packets.

The concept has been introduced by startup Aromina Tea in an attempt to offer options to the visually challenged. NGO Care U 365 has helped the firm with the braille works.

Director of Aromica tea Ranjit Baruah said braille friendly products address the needs of a special category of people of the society and ensures them equal rights in determining their choice. In the first phase, the company has launched Assam Orthodox tea, Assam green tea and value added Masala tea in specially designed Braille packets.

"Depending on the response more products would be launched in future. It is a small step in the endeavour to provide access to choice to the visually challenged besides promoting Assam tea. Probably, it is for the first time tea will come in Braille friendly packets," Baruah said.

The braille contains the product description, content inside, price, net weight, manufacturing date and expiry date.

"The entire concept took about eight months to materialize. We were helped by Bhrigu Goswami and Sushil Pourel of NGO Care U 365 from Guwahati," Baruah added.
