GUWAHATI, Nov 13 - The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) will open offices in 12 cities, including Guwahati, as part of its effort to expand operations across the country to support states and training partners.
Sources said the decision was taken during the recent 8th Partners Meet of the NSDC held in New Delhi.
NSDC will open offices in Guwahati and also in Patna, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Ranchi, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Mumbai, Jaipur, Chennai, Hyderabad and Lucknow.
The expansion plan is being undertaken to support the human resource exercise of Skill India being undertaken in order to make the nation a powerhouse for skilled workforce.
Sources added that the step will enhance the corporations engagement with the State government here and also help in realising the potential of sustainable growth for the local partners of NSDC.
The latest decision comes just two months after the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) had announced its decision to set up two new skill centres under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) in Assams Darrang and Udalguri districts as part of the governments plan to fast track skill development initiatives in the North East and to further enhance skill development initiatives for the youths of the region.
NSDC, which is the implementing agency of PMKVY, will ensure that the courses run at these centres are all aligned to the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) and also quality training and management of the structured skill development programme. Last year, Guwahati-based Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) and the NSDC had entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand the skilling activities under PMKVY in the north-eastern region.
