GUWAHATI, Aug 6 - Indian Oil Corporation Limited�s Guwahati Refinery was awarded the prestigious Oil Industry Safety Award for the year 2013-14 for best �Near Miss Reporting�. The award is constituted for �Documenting and sharing near miss incidents aimed at improving the safety culture as well as dissemination of leanings�, a press release stated.

The award was given away by Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas, at a function held at the Scope Auditorium of Scope Complex in New Delhi on August 4. HL Das, DGM (HSE), Guwahati Refinery, received the award.

The criteria for evaluation of these safety awards is based on a number of parameters, such as complexity of the process, hazard potential, hydrocarbon volumes handled, incident-free man-hours, incidents of fires and accidents, safety management system, etc. Further, one of the major conditions for selecting the winning organisation is that it must have an excellent track record of safety.
