By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, March 24 Guwahati need three more wickets to wrap up the first semifinal match of the Elite Group Senior Inter District Cricket Championship against Silchar.

Requiring an imposing 390 for victory in the second innings, Silchar were tottering at 150 for seven on the penultimate day of the four-day encounter at the Nehru Stadium here today.

Resuming the second innings at the overnight total of 115 for one, Guwahati were all out for 267 and extended the overall lead to 389 after gaining a first innings advantage of 122 runs.

Overnight unbeaten batsmen Rishab Das and Gokul Sharma were out for 62 and 63 respectively, while Nishanta Bordoloi contributed 37. Bitop Mahanta (340 and Bhaskarjyoti Barman (22) also offered some valuable contributions in the lower order.

The Silchar batsmen made a solid start adding 60 for the opening wicket partnership between Raju Das (31) and Bijender Singh (25). Coming at number three, Ranji batsman Dipak Sharma began with a positive note scoring 35 from as many balls. But a brilliant catch at the deep mid wicket by Bhaskarjyoti Barman off Bitop Mahanta ended his lusty knocks. Dipaks out virtually ended the thin hope of Silchar making a fightback.

After his departure, who was the fourth victim of the local boys, three more wickets fall in the remaining part of the days play.

Guwahati spinners again came good as Bitop and Bhaskarjyoti shared all the seven wickets that fell today. While Bitop came out with four scalps, Bhaskarjyoti took three.

Apart from top three Silchar batsmen, only Biswajeet Bhatacharjee (14) could reach double figures.
