JAGIROAD, Jan 2 � Defending champions Guwahati and host Morigaon settled for semifinal berths in the 62nd Senior Inter District Football Championship. In the first quarterfinal match of the tournament at Jagi Kalpataru playground near here today, Guwahati outwitted Charaideo 6-2.
Jilendra Brahma was the star performer for Guwahati as he netted four goals alone out of six. The nimble-footed striker netted in the 5th, 36th, 40th and 63rd minutes while Apurba Phukan (34th minute) and Bappa Biswas (50th minute) scored one goal each. For Charaideo, Govinda Orang (65th minute, penalty) and Bitopan Chetia (88th minute) reduced the margin.
The organisers today felicitated Assam Football Association officials Bipin Deka, Alimuddin Ahmed, Bipin Bora and Anjan Sinha before start of the match. Local MLA Bibekananda Doloi was present on the occasion. At Morigaon in another quarterfinal match, the host team got a walkover against Margherita which failed to turn up.
