NEW DELHI, Sept 25 - The Centre is planning to hold the next India International Science Festival (IISF) in eastern India and Guwahati is being considered as one of the venues, Union Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Dr Harsh Vardhan said here.
Addressing a curtain raiser ahead of the Fourth IISF to be held in Lucknow during October 5-8, the Minister said the North East will have a strong representation at the event. �We are focusing on uplift of the North East. We will take the next IISF to eastern India,� Vardhan said.
From the North East, 225 students are taking part at the IISF in Lucknow which will be inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind. The theme of this edition of the science festival is �Science for Transformation�.
Dr Vardhan said that during the past four years, science in India has undergone a sea change � from fundamental science to application science, where science plays a leading role in societal transformation.
IISF is conceivably the biggest platform in India that brings together students, researchers, artistes and the public to celebrate the nation�s achievements in science and technology.
