Guwahati in control against NF Railway SA

GUWAHATI, April 16 � Altogether 17 wickets were fell on the opening day of the four-day Nuruddin Trophy senior inter district cricket semifinal match between Guwahati and NF Railway Sports Association.

On a difficult wicket at the Nehru Stadium here today, opting to bat first Guwahati crawled to 201 in their first innings losing all the wickets in 71.2 overs. In reply railway were tottering at 69 for seven at stumps. Railway top order failed to tackle the hot stuffs from Guwahati bowlers and started marching to the pavilion at regular intervals. Barring Parvez Aziz (29) and Sib Sankar Roy (23) no other railway batsmen could read Guwahati bowlers. Spinner Gokul Sharma took three wickets for 22 while pacemen Chanakya Sarma and Sujay Tarafdar picked two wickets each.

Earlier, veteran Nishanta Bordoloi remained unbeaten on 34 while Rishav Das (31), skipper Bhaskarjyoti Barman (28) and Abhijit Sinha Roy (24) had some respectable contributions to Guwahati total considering the wicket condition. For NF Railway spinners Tarjinder Singh and Sekharjyoti Barman claimed three wickets each while Deepak Punia got two.
