Guwahati in comfortable position

GUWAHATI, June 3 - Guwahati were in a comfortable position against Goalpara on day one of their two-day match of the Nuruddin Ahmed Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament at the NFRSA Stadium in Maligaon here today.

Opting to bat, Goalpara were bundled out for 192 in their first innings in 62 overs. Rameez Rabbani top scored with a fine knock of 140 runs off 156 deliveries studded with thirteen hits to the fence and five over the ropes. For Guwahati, Abhinav Choudhury was the pick of the bowlers with a five-wicket haul for 36 runs in 15 overs while Bikash Chetry bagged three wickets for 44 runs in 22 overs. Abu Nechim Ahmed picked up two wickets for 18 runs in 7 overs.

In reply, Guwahati were 69 for the loss of three wickets in their first innings when bad light forced play to stop. Hrishikesh Tamuli scored 39 runs off 55 balls. For Goalpara, left arm spinner Pushparaj Sharma picked up two wickets for 8 runs in 4.1 over while Mausam Rabha scalped one wicket for 8 runs in his 2 overs. Guwahati still trail by 123 runs and with seven wickets in hand.
