Guwahati in comfort zone

GUWAHATI, April 25 - Defending champions Guwahati are comfortably placed after scoring 74 for one in reply to Bongaigaon�s first innings total of 108.

On the opening day of the four-day final of the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament at the ACA Stadium in Barsapara here today, put in to bat, the Bongaigaon batsmen miserably failed to counter the Guwahati bowlers and folded their inning in 54 overs. Only Fazlur Rahman (36) and Debodeep Nag (35) were able to put some resistance while Avinav Choudhury was the wrecker in chief with six wickets for 27 runs.

The match had to be called off before 61 minutes of scheduled time due to inclement weather conditions. Rishav Das was batting on 51. Guwahati batted for 15 overs and need just 35 runs to take the first innings lead with nine wickets still in hand.
