GUWAHATI, Sept 25 (PTI): The city had to do without newspapers as a three-day hawkers' strike demanding higher commission began today.
"Newspaper agencies are depriving the hawkers of their legitimate commission for a long period," a representative of the Guwahati Hawkers Association said here.
"We had earlier protested for a day in August and the agencies assured us that they would consider our demands. But nothing was done and we have been forced to launch a three-day agitation," he said.
The hawkers have threatened to extend their agitation to the rest of the state if the on-going protest does not yield any result.
