Guwahati FC, Green Valley FC share honours

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, June 4 Newly-formed Guwahati Football Club and GSA Super League outfit Green Valley Football Club shared points in the Assam State Premier League (ASPL) match.

On a slushy Nehru Stadium ground here today, both the teams netted one each to settle for a draw.

Guwahati FC went ahead in the 34th minute through Laldinliana Varte while in the 56th minute, Nigerian striker George Prince Chinonso drew parity.

It was a below mediocre encounter as the players of both the teams had to struggle against unfavourable ground condition. However, the Green Valley boys were distinctly dominated proceedings from the initial stage. Micheal Lucky Kelechukwa and Gahiam Rongmei created several openings before the Guwahati FC defenders could settle down. But goalkeeper Santi Ranjan Das stood like a rock under the bar and defied the Green Valley frontliners from hitting the target.

Off a counter move, Laldinliana opened the account with a long ranger. The goal was against the run of play as with a sudden attack he beat the Green Valley custodian Satish Singh with a long ranger.

In the second session, both the teams shared the ball almost equally. Guwahati FC strikers Lalliansanga, Khunukchann and Nigerian ND Opara could not read the ball properly and squandered scoring opportunities.

But the seasoned Green Valley striker George Prince did a great job by firing the equaliser after stanching the ball from opponent defender Pranjit Kumar Das. George kept his cool inside the box and beat Santi with a smart right footer.

MLA Capt Robin Bordoloi, Sports Commissioner Ajai Tiwari, AFA secretary Ankur Dutta, former international footballer Gilbertson Sangma, who is also brand ambassador of the Green Valley team, were present in the inaugural function of the match.
