GUWAHATI, May 27 � The newly formed Guwahati Football Club will make its appearance in the Assam State Premier League (ASPL) with the away match against Tezpur United on May 30.
The team was formally launched at a brief function at the RG Baruah Sports Complex here today.
Addressing the media, Guwahati FC co-owner Sanjive Narain also announced that Anxo Valcarcel of Spain has been appointed as the chief coach of the team while Pinku Moni Hazarika will be his deputy.
Narain also informed that altogether 25 players, 15 from Assam, have been registered among them five are catchment, four U-20 and two foreigners as per the guidelines of the ASPL.
The catchment players are Wilchand Deory, Pranjit Kumar Das, Rupjyoti Senapati, Amujao Singh, Sagar Gurung. The U-20 players are Vishal Hazarika, Lalliangsanga, Rajkumar Biswakarma, Rahul Boro. The foreign players are Anxo Vacarcel and Adekoye Babatund, both are Nigerians.
Narain revealed that the club will look after the local players so that the standard of Assam football can be raised.
The chief coach, who was earlier associated with Spanish clubs like Real Madrid FC, RC Deprotivo, Real Club Celta De Vigo said he was happy to be associated with the team and during the last couple of days here he found some quality players through which the team can expect some good results.
�Time is of the essence and the players must be ready within a shot span�, he added.
Assam Football Association secretary Ankur Dutta said the ASPL will be able to create a new chapter in Assam football. Guwahati FC�s home and away jerseys were also unveiled on the occasion.
The championship will kick start at Diphu on May 29 with the Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC taking on Trinayanjyoti FC of Chabua, Dibrugarh.
